About this session

The threat landscape is turbulent and constantly evolving with the development and adoption of new technology, causing an increase in the number of breaches, and organisations need to stay ahead of the game to protect themselves and their customers.

While implementing robust security measures and performing periodic reviews are important steps, they are not enough to keep organizations safe from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Therefore, organisations should invest in a ‘proactive’ intelligence function to provide Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) to identify and mitigate potential threats before they occur.

By providing timely and relevant information, proactive intelligence enables organisations to identify and mitigate potential threats before they can cause harm, thereby reducing the risk of reputational damage, financial loss, and regulatory penalties. There should also be an equal investment in educating the employees and training them to ensure they are aware of and understand the impact of data security.

This presentation will guide the audience through data breaches stemming from accidental loss, mishandling of intellectual property data or following improper security measures that can cause reputational damage to the organisation if taken a reactive approach. By shifting left and taking a proactive approach, organizations can prevent cyber attacks and repercussions from data loss.

The presentation will provide practical guidance on how to establish a proactive cyber security strategy, including leveraging open source intelligence, training employees on best practices, and implementing rigorous procedures to prevent data loss. Additionally, the audience will gain an understanding of how OSINT can be used passively and in non-intrusive ways to establish rigorous procedures to help organisations.

The demand for proactive security has increased significantly in recent years and is expected to continue growing due to evolving threat landscape and increasing regulatory requirements. By adopting a proactive Shift Left mindset from the get-go, organisations can confidently navigate through and prevent cyber attacks including phishing and repercussions from data loss.
