Cyber security is often portrayed as part of a shadowy world of hackers and international espionage.
As a result, everyday humans find it hard to see it as relevant.
That’s one of the findings from research CERT NZ commissioned to better understand the audiences it is trying to influence, as the New Zealand government agency tasked with helping consumers and businesses better protect themselves online.
CERT NZ is reviewing its approach to audience engagement, and as a result has some insights to share from its market research into behaviours and motivations.
Human behaviour is one of the hardest things to manage when it comes to cyber security risk. All too often people ‘can’t be bothered’ to take even simple steps to protect themselves, or believe that a cyber attack ‘won’t happen to me’.
This presentation will cover behaviour change concepts from psychology and how they can relate to cyber security. It will provide some tips for using these insights to better communicate your message to clients or staff.
It will also relate how CERT NZ is changing its approach and way of engaging to better engage with its target audiences.
