My name is Brendan D’Arcy, I am an ex-sailor in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) where I served between 2007 and 2020. During my time I was privileged enough to sever on HMAS Manoora, HMAS Sydney, HMAS Ducheneaux and across several minor war vessels. I also served at a number of different shore establishments from Fleet ICT Support Perth, Fleet ICT Support Sydney, HQNORCOM and at the Bridge Simulator where I assisted in the training of naval officers. In my last two years in the Navy, I was fortunate enough to be a part of establishing the Fleet Cyber Unit (FCU) for fleet command. Since discharging from the Navy, I have worked at the University of Sydney in the Cyber Security Operations team as a Senor Cyber Operations Analyst. I have also been working as part of the Cyber Transformation Project team as the “Technical Lead Public Cloud” since 2021.

During my time at the University I have been able to achieve the following accomplishments:

  • Design and build the new data plane for AWS using a hub and spoke methodology, using an inspection VPC,
  • Architect the design for a new WAFaaS,
  • I have also respond to numerous incidents some of which had the potential to cause catastrophic damage to the Universities ICT systems and its reputation
