There is an increasing focus on the need for, and benefits of, diversity in the infosec workforce. However this focus often overlooks neurodiversity.
Despite the difficulties that neurodiverse people face, there are many areas in which neurodiverse people excel. Neurodiverse people bring a broader range of skill sets and perspectives which is invaluable to the industry. For example, their non-linear thinking, hyper-focus and ability to identify patterns can be a superpower when identifying malicious activity or vulnerabilities. Understanding and increasing neurodiversity will help shape the future of the industry.
The session, led by a panel of neurodiverse cyber security professionals, will start with a presentation that explains how to better understand neurodiversity and harness the associated superpowers which your colleagues or team members may possess. It will cover:
- An overview of what neurodiversity is, focusing on ADHD and Autism.
- What unique skills and abilities are commonly associated with Autism and ADHD.
- The benefits of neurodiversity in cyber security, and in leadership.
- Understanding what environments are most conducive to high performance for neurodiverse people, and what environments my be detrimental.
- Retention of neurodiverse employees, and what employers and colleagues can do to assist neurodiverse people in the workplace.
Following the presentation, the panel will discuss their experiences, and have an open Q&A with the audience.
